Understanding the ocean comes before designing for it
The Ocean Tech Camp begins by introducing participants to marine ecosystems and the challenges faced by researchers, conservation practitioners, and coastal communities.
Participants will explore how scientists study marine life, what information is difficult to collect, and how accessible technology can help address gaps in ocean knowledge.

How scientific information can support conservation decisions
Marine scientists, conservation practitioners, engineers, and National Geographic Explorers will share examples from their work and introduce participants to real challenges that could benefit from creative and affordable solutions.
Different perspectives are welcome
We’re not just looking for marine biologists! Students from environmental sciences, engineering and communications courses can contribute different ways of understanding and responding to ocean challenges.
By the end of this stage, each team will have identified a research or conservation challenge that will guide the technology it develops.
