Film screening event brings Iyo Ang Dagat and Dahican to the big screen in Palawan
People from all walks of life attended a film screening event at SM Cinema Puerto Princesa last Friday, July 18. The special event was co-sponsored by LAMAVE, Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines (MWWP), Save Philippine Seas (SPS) and the Blue Capacity Collective and was part of this years Shark Conservation Week, an annual event focused on raising awareness about the importance of shark and ray conservation.
Iyo Ang Dagat on the big screen
Despite the heavy rains we were greeted with an excited crowd. The audience, which included students, conservationists, government agencies and members of the public were treated to a cinema screening of Iyo Ang Dagat by LAMAVE and Dahican by Boogs Rosales.
The audience takes in the films
Surprise as the stars of the film appear in the audience!
After the film finished, the audience were introduced to many of the stakeholders featured in the film Iyo Ang Dagat who were also present in the cinema including Col. Glenn Destriza from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, Fishers Boi Montalban and Mateo Ursal, Fisher and Tour Guide Andy Leonor, Tour Guide Jupiter "Eggman" Ellazar and business owner Angelo E. 'Toto' Cayabo, Kymry Delijro from WWF-Philippines, PASU of Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park Angelique Songco (Mama Ranger), Evelyn Conales and family, LAMAVE Researchers Ariana Agustines and Titus Cañete, and Dr AA Yaptinchay from MWWP. Having so many of the films stars under one roof, was an unforgettable moment.
Sadly not all stakeholders featured in the film were able to attend, notably missing was Tubbataha Reefs Ranger Segundo Conales Jr who was offshore protecting Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, Warlito Taneo and Melanio ‘Nino’ B. Magbanua from Cagayancillo, Marivel Dygico, Ronald 'Kap' de Roa and crew from WWF-Philippines and Aiza Arangorin from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, amongst others. We hope to do more screenings with more stakeholders in the near future.
