Ocean challenges need more than one kind of expertise
The camp’s participants will be organized into interdisciplinary teams. Each team will bring together students from marine science, engineering and technology, and communications or design.
Participants will learn how to combine different skills, divide responsibilities, make decisions, and solve problems as a team.
Different roles, one shared goal
Team responsibilities may include:
-Understanding the research or conservation question
-Assembling and troubleshooting the technology
-Planning and documenting field activities
-Recording and interpreting observations
-Designing visuals and communication materials
-Coordinating tasks and timelines
-Preparing and delivering the final presentation
These roles may overlap. Every participant will contribute to the development, testing, and communication of the team’s idea.
Making science understandable
A useful idea can have greater impact when people understand what it does and why it matters.
Teams will learn to explain:
The challenge they selected
Why the challenge matters
How their prototype works
What happened during testing
What they learned from the results
How the technology could be improved or used in the future
