Azell Montederamos

Project Leader: Rapid By-catch Assessment Project

Azell has delved into environmental science both locally and abroad. He spent three years as a marine mammal observer in Hong Kong, where he encountered the endemic Chinese White Dolphin. This urged him to contribute to the preservation and protection of marine wildlife. He went on to pursue a career in marine conservation in the Philippines.

He first joined LAMAVE as a research assistant for the Rapid By-catch Assessment (RBA) Project in 2022. He now leads the said project and continues to travel to different parts of the Philippines, conducting interviews and focus group discussions with local fishermen to understand better the impact of small-scale fisheries on the conservation of threatened marine megafauna.
